The Surgical Physician Assistant’s position is primarily focused on clinical management, favorable impact on quality of care and is responsible to oversee the total care of the Surgery patient including physical exams and treatment of illness.
Surgical Physician Assistants will function in all areas of the peri-operative environment including pre-admission, test review, intra-operative first assisting, PACU care, SICU care, step-down unit, outpatient clinic, office practice and other areas designated.
The Surgical Physician Assistant will use a variety of skills to educate, consult and manage the Surgery patient population and assist the patient/family, the patient care team and physicians.
The Surgical Physician’s Assistant will work collaboratively with the health care team including Trauma and Surgery physicians, anesthesiologists, other physicians involved in the trauma or surgery patient care, nurses, case management, physical and occupational therapy and with departments affecting the care of the Trauma or Surgery patient.
The Surgical Physician’s Assistant will act as a clinical educator working with staff on Surgery competencies, new procedures and advanced practice skills.
The Surgical Physician’s Assistant will work with the Surgeons to implement necessary medical aspects of care including discharges and pain management.
The Surgical Physician’s Assistant will use these skills to affect a quality patient experience.
Current Physician’s Assistant Licensure in New York State
Bachelor’s Degree plus Master’s Graduate of an Accredited Physician’s Assistant Program with clinical focus on Surgery
Successful completion of National Commission on Certification of PA’s
Completion of a recent Physician's Assistant Surgical Residency Program or have at least 5 years or more work experience as a Surgical P.A.
Collaborative Practice Agreement with the Medical Director of the Trauma Program
Current BLS and ACLS Certification
